My sister is currently unraveling and this woman’s story is currently my families reality. We’re discovering that the only options for us are jail or psychiatric units but she won’t go to a psych ward willingly. We are literally waiting for her to be a danger to someone in order for her to be forced into psychiatric care. It’s misery and my parents are at wits end.

At least back in those days, a vulnerable population had a place to go where they weren't at risk of being killed or beaten every single day by other predatory mentally ill and addicted people.

While I appreciate the many kind comments of hope and love, it makes me sad to read how many of these comments are about personal responsibility, of the parents or the individual, to take care of this problem alone. We have really been fed this ideology of individualism so fiercely that we have forgotten about community, and compassion. I really wish I could help people understand how much we self fulfill the prophecy of most people being cruel and lacking empathy. It has become markedly worse during my short lifetime alone. Charles Dickens and Victor Hugo wrote about this over centuries past, and we somehow can't remember the message they sent about working together, rather than competition alone as our way of life. We just think the musicals and movies are cute. It's the most important message of all human history.

The reason this happens is not “ psychosis “ as is told to the public. It is not a medical problem or a medical solution because medicines make things worse for most. Not better. And cause iatrogenic issues like diabetes sexual dysfunction and the “ lack of insight” is on the part of parents not “the afflicted one “. Individual therapy is not an answer. Its just venting to a stranger. Cognitive “ restructuring “ also can mask and drugs definitely do mask issues too. This has no answer if families are told this is a chemical imbalance or genes or brains because its now known to be more psychosocial than biological and the diagnosis is worse than the problem because the person’s reality is being expressed in broken metaphors no one can decipher not even them and some of the medications are addictive or have paradoxical effects which cause not heal mental illness. Few would take the medications if warning labels were on the bottle because the side effects are horrible and it is not “ her illness “ necessarily making her sick in jail its JAIL and the medication. If she refused it to begin with three’s a reason for it. It couldve been worsening things not improving things. First episode psychosis can be cures without any relapse witg dialogic practice but it is impossible to do in the US and the medical model id a total failure too. Disability and incarceration rates rise as prescription use rises. It is a causal relationship. Anatomy of ab Epidemic won the Pulitzer Prize. Too many jobs depend on more and more mental patients. This is why there are so many homeless and adducted on street drugs which were once on legal psych drugs and the eighth amendment protects criminals but nothing protects mental patients in jails or prisons . CIT claims to protect but it is more a fundraising PR tool and is not implemented Nobody calms assesses or facilitates. In fact they do the exact recerse and they only do it to so called mentally ill who should probably start being angry even if anger is called a “ symptom “ so this evil is exposed. So ahoukd their families but their families ars sometimes a big reason they stay “ mentally ill “ because scapegoating is big business and families are given all the right tools to abuse the “probkem child “ by the mental health “ industry “ and the pseudoscientific big pharma drug marketing.

I have two adult children, both clinically diagnosed with schizophrenia. It’s awful. I have tried so many times to get help for my son and I am always told “he has rights” and until he is deemed to be a danger to others or his self there is no help. The system, unfortunately, is set up to be reactive versus proactive. I’m heartbroken because literally there is nothing I can do. My daughter up and left for Vegas. We had not heard from her so we connected with the police, filed a missing persons report on her and hired a private investigator only to be told she was found sleeping on the streets. They stated that she did not want any help and because she seemed fine to them, there was nothing they could do. Just so unfortunate!

He held a gun to my head 3 weeks ago and they direct admitted him to a crisis unit for 10 days...now he is threatening me again and is now doing meth and has been up for four days. I drove around all night last night and slept in my car cause I'm scared to go home. He is going to kill me one day in a psychosis. I told the cops, "Remember my face when you are putting me in a body bag."

I don't know if this mother reads these comments but I hope she reads mine. I want you to know how important your video is on changing the officers that I train in Tennessee on mental health. I have 5 objectives; diagnosis that are common in our jails and prisons, skills and ways to assist inmates in crisis, understanding involuntary admission but most of all having empathy. After I go through all my power point slides your video is the last thing that I show. I introduce your video and then show the before picture of your beautiful daughter and then one after she turned 18yo. My last question to all that attend is if your video touched their hearts and if they will take a minute to have some empathy and consider that the next person that comes into booking may not be high on drugs and even if they are it may be because they are suffering for mental illness. Thank you for sharing this video and giving me the opportunity to share your story and the story of you beautiful to change the way we treat our mentally ill patients in our jails. When i decided to quit taking Oxy and Hydro a little over 10 years ago after 12-13 years of use and abuse my doctor left in 2013 and must have seen a different doctor every month for 9 until i got on buprenirohine. The last prescription i got was for hydrocodone.I was expecting something like #90 10/500 eight to ten days worth (back before they changed everything to 325mg acetaminophen)and the new apn id never seen before gave me #60 5/500 and knowing that would only last 3-4 days by taking 100mg once daily like id always done.Dissapointed about the quantity i went home and TOOK 30 TABLETS(and my liver values are still perfect to this day)they were gone in 2 days and within 2 weeks i was on buprenorphine but those 9 months after my long term doc left and when i finally got stabalized on buorenorhine were rough. I went up to 10 days without food or sleep,it was constantly hard to breathe and had diarrhea 99% of the time I lost a lot of weight too Im 6'4 and large statured and at 260 i have a normal waistline but went from 290 to about 225 in 3 or 4 months with no physical activity just laying in a bed not eating or sleeping so miserable i wanted to die FOR 9 MONTHS.If you've been using long term theres no such thing as getting better in 14-30 days not even 90 it takes years of determination and strong will.

I’m so sad…. I witnessed this beautiful sweet woman, a narcissistic personality, borderline, and antisocial. Lately she’s become unglued, unable to control her rages, abusive increasingly sick behavior… She began a effort to have her mother locked up in an insane asylum with her “ little” younger brother so she could take her parents money sooner… She has become increasing volatile, posting childish insults at people online, making fun of people’s weight, socioeconomic status, even making fun of women with hair loss and fat shaming them. She also made fun of an attorney who became confined to a wheelchair after peripheral neuropathy due to cancer…. Everyone and everything was judged beneath her ( narcissism and antisocial traits just like this poor lady) . I kept screaming someone put the breaks on her she’s out of control!!!!! Sordid tale…..
